Life In The "_____"Claska 8th Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 2023

“A new way of life, a new social landscape, a new”.
For those of us living in a world where new values and cultures are being sought in the wake of Covid-19, what, fundamentally,
is the essence of our way of life and our values? Based on Henry David Thoreau’s *Walden; or, Life in the Woods*, written after he spent nearly two years in seclusion in the woods in 1845, I created a short soundscape piece composed solely of sound and narration. A world of sound experienced by blocking out sight, listening intently through headphones in the dim light. When the listener finally opens their eyes again at the end, what have they lost, and what have they gained? In a room at HOTEL OLASKA THE 8th Gallery—a space that once helped create a new era and culture but is now fading away—this is a small experiment designed to open our ears and listen for the essence of a world where new values, such as “living with COVID” and the “new normal,” are rapidly approaching.
